Fodor's Review

This northern Italian restaurant is a classic big-night-out choice. Subdued lighting, elegant furnishings, fresh flowers: all the decor details have been attended to, and ditto for the food, which is impressive and satisfying. Excellent seared foie gras is always on the menu, as is veal scaloppine sautéed with lobster and topped with a creamy garlic-and-cognac sauce. Prices on the specialty wine list go as high as C$600, but there are also fine bottles for under C$50.

Attentive service and stylish but comfortable atmosphere were wonderful, but the food is what really made this stand out. I had three courses and each was memorably excellent. Price range listed by Fodor's is a little understated. Entrees were all about $30 (none near $20), but at least one appetizer ($10 +/- each) is a must for a full meal.

A Disappointment

After the rave reviews, I was expecting a better dinner than we had. We made reservations weeks in advance and were then seated behind a screen off the entry area (lots of noise!) with a table of 6. After perusing the menu for a l-o-o-n-n-g time, I was told by the waitress when she finally appeared that it was not available. I expect something like this in a diner, but not at a top notch restaurant. The subsequent dinner was nothing special and

the atmosphere somewhat "snooty." Go to the Press Gang instead!

EXCELLENT...What else can you say?

Went for our anniversary and did the "tasting" menue. I would highly reccomend this as it gives the opportunity to partake of many of the chef's best items. The service was impeccable. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Can't wait to return.

Simply the Best

We have ate at DaMaurizio at least three times a year for ten years. The food is always excellent. The seared scallops are the best I've ever had, certainly better than those at the River Cafe in London. The radicchio salad and the pumpkin ravioli are always fabulous. Start off with a refreshing Kir Royale, and you will have a great evening.
