Westin Nova Scotian Review

This imposing 1930s hotel sits beside the train station, with the harbor behind and Cornwallis Park in front. While it provides top-notch business services, the Westin also has a resort-y feel: along with a pool and rare downtown tennis court, it offers a small Wii/Xbox lounge for kids, plus complimentary activities like face painting, movie nights, pool activities, and train station tours in July and August. An in-house spa appeals to parents, and everyone will appreciate the signature "heavenly beds." The restaurant, Elements ($$-$$$), serves fresh seafood, pastas, and meatier fare.

Sweet Merciful Crap it was hot

We spent two nights at the Westin when booked there for a business trip. I'm not usually one to complain about a free hotel, but my God it was hot. It was the dead of Winter outside, but the temperature inside had to be at least 25 Celsius. When we couldn't find a thermostat we called the desk and were told that heating was controlled centrally and that nothing could be done. By the end of each night all bedsheets were tossed and we were struggling to breathe, waking up once an hour to chug water and replace some liquids.

The walls were also paper thin, and the staff copped patronizing attitudes every time we spoke to someone.

    Charming Hotel

While not right in the middle of all the action, this hotel is certainly close enough. It finds itself nestled among wonderful eating establishments. Being right next to the train station, it has a certain charm. I find that the rooms are a little smaller than some of the other hotels around but the service is adequate and the price is often right.
