Fodor's Review

This imposing 1930s hotel sits beside the train station, with the harbor behind and Cornwallis Park in front, and though it provides top-notch business services, it also has a resort-y feel. Along with a pool and a rare downtown tennis court, the Westin offers a small Wii/Xbox lounge for kids, plus complimentary activities such as face painting, movie nights, pool activities, and train-station tours in July and August. An in-house spa appeals to adults, and everyone will

appreciate the signature "heavenly beds." The restaurant, Elements, serves fresh seafood, pastas, and meatier fare.

Sweet Merciful Crap it was hot

We spent two nights at the Westin when booked there for a business trip. I'm not usually one to complain about a free hotel, but my God it was hot. It was the dead of Winter outside, but the temperature inside had to be at least 25 Celsius. When we couldn't find a thermostat we called the desk and were told that heating was controlled centrally and that nothing could be done. By the end of each night all bedsheets were tossed and we were struggling

to breathe, waking up once an hour to chug water and replace some liquids. The walls were also paper thin, and the staff copped patronizing attitudes every time we spoke to someone.

Charming Hotel

While not right in the middle of all the action, this hotel is certainly close enough. It finds itself nestled among wonderful eating establishments. Being right next to the train station, it has a certain charm. I find that the rooms are a little smaller than some of the other hotels around but the service is adequate and the price is often right.

The Limo Service They Recommend Doesn't Match the Grand Hotel

I was travelling with 2 small dogs recently and after phoning the Westin Halifax, they 'sold' me on using their Limo service. When I arrived at the airport after travelling 12 hours, the limo was not curbside. And then he wouldn't hold the leashed dogs while I went back inside to get their cages and my luggage, and would not allow them in his car without being in the cages! I booked the Westin BECAUSE it was pet friendly, and I couldn't believe

they would send me an anti-dog person. I was very tired and upset, and a good samaritan came to my rescue. I ultimately took a wonderful limousine service called Ambassador Limousine to and from the hotel. So if you have pets or even if you don't, if the hotel recommends their limousine service, do yourself a favour and call another company.

A Classic Jem in a Beautiful City

I have had the pleasure to stay at this hotel four times this year. Each time the staff have attended to my needs, from valet service to room service. The hotel is a classic hotel with lots of character. Cozzy rooms and beautiful ball rooms. Would recomend to any visitor of Halifax who enjoys a relaxing vacation. The new look of the lounge and new menu at Elements (formerly Tradewinds) is decadent. Enjoy the great stay, I did!
