Whale-Watching

The east coast of Newfoundland, including the area around St. John's, provides spectacular whale-watching opportunities. Twenty-two species of dolphins and whales are visible along the coast—huge humpback whales weighing up to 30 tons come close to shore to feed in late spring and early summer. You may be able to spot icebergs and large flocks of nesting seabirds in addition to whales on many boat tours.

Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours. Expect to see whales, icebergs, and intensely beautiful scenery on two-hour fully narrated boat tours (C$60) to the most easterly points in North America. As the vessel heads out through the harbor narrows between Signal Hill and Fort Amherst on its way to Cape Spear, you'll be entertained with traditional and local music.
