In operation for 20 years, this popular family-run eatery has grown to its present quarters: a stand-alone, spacious structure with containers of flowers and shrubs brightening the sidewalk out front. The menu offers more than 100 traditional Chinese dishes in the Hong Kong style, plus "North American-style Chinese dishes" for the less adventurous. Prices are very reasonable, and it's a popular local spot for couples, families, and groups of office workers or friends, who come for the beef, duck, and seafood, often flambéed at the table. Try Har Gaw (like a light, crispy won ton) for a crunchy starter, and sizzling shrimp in black bean sauce. An added bonus is that Magic Wok Eatery, near the Delta and the Mile One entertainment complex, is one of the few downtown restaurants that offers free parking.
