You don't have to be a vegetarian to like Le Commensal. Even members of the steak-frites crowd drop in occasionally to sample the salads, couscous, and meatless versions of such favorites as lasagna and shepherd's pie that this Montréal-grown chain dishes out. The food is served buffet style and sold by weight. There are at least seven outlets on the island, all of them big and bright with modern furniture; the nicest is on the second floor of a downtown building with windows overlooking busy, fashionable rue McGill College.
