An institution in downtown Tofino, the main-floor dining room is comfortable and casually upscale. The seafood dishes change frequently, but try, if it's available, the halibut Bawden Bay: halibut fillet stuffed with Brie, crab, pine nuts, and shrimp in an apple-peppercorn brandy sauce. The Schooner is also popular for its hearty breakfasts and lunchtime sandwiches, burgers, and pastas, and the summer patio is a plus. The evening-only Schooner Upstairs is both a fine-dining restaurant and a lounge with exceptional views to Meares Island. Small plates are served in the lounge, a popular gathering place for hip locals.
