Fairburn Farm Culinary Retreat & Guesthouse

Fodor's Review:

This 1896 manor on 130 pastoral acres is the centerpiece of a historic farm, Canada's first water-buffalo dairy, and a destination for lovers of terrific local food. Three meadow-view rooms are freshly decorated with fine linens, deep rich colors, original woodwork, and local art. The more simply furnished two-bedroom cottage has a full kitchen. A wide veranda, meadows, a mile of creek, and trails through the surrounding woods provide plenty of space to unwind. Dinners of homegrown fare are available to overnight guests from Thursday to Saturday, with advance notice. On summer Saturdays the host, chef Mara Jernigan, offers a cooking class followed by a lavish lunch. On Sundays in July and August, there's room for 28 at a six-course Italian-style lunch on the veranda.
