Sooke Harbour House Review

Art, food, and gardens work together seamlessly at one of Canada's best-loved country inns. Guest rooms, public spaces, and even the outdoor areas are beautifully decorated with pieces from the owners' vast art collection. Guest rooms in the 1929 oceanfront inn, each with a fireplace and private balcony or patio are individually themed and exquisitely comfortable in an informal country-house way. All the romantic requisites, from in-room spa services to breakfast in bed, are offered.

ROOM: CARPETS VERY SOILED,SLIP COVERS ARE NOT ONLY THREAD BARE BUT HAVE HOLES AND SOILED, FURNITURE UNDER COVERS IF LEFT ROADSIDE.. NO ONE WOULD EVEN BOTHER PICKING THEM UP, WINDOW CANNOT SEE OUT AS WINDOWS HAVE LOST THEIR SEALS. DUVET CONTAINED LUMPY OLD BLANKET THAT PUDDLED TO THE FLOOR EACH NIGHT SEVERAL TIME PER NIGHT. COMMON AREAS WERE IN NEED OF SIMILAR REPAIR WOOD TRIM WAS IN NEED OF REPAIR AND SEALING OR PAINT.
THE GROUND THOUGH IT WAS FALL A MESS OF DEAD VEGETATION. THE OWNERS NEED TO MAINTAIN THIS PROPERTY. EITHER THEY ARE BEING VERY CHEAP OR VERY GREEDY. THIS ONCE WAS A GREAT PLACE. THE STAFF IS SO SERVICE ORIENTED AND APOLOGIZES FOR THE OMISSIONS TO CARE OF THE PROPERTY FOR THE PRICE THIS IS A VERY BAD DEAL. THERE IS NO SENSE OF PRIDE BY THE OWNERS. we HAVE RELIED ON THE fODOR,S RECOMMENDATIONS, WORLD WIDE FOR YEARS,NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED, UNTIL NOW. your COMMENDATIONS OF THIS PROPERTY NEED REVIEWING

    Read the fine print.

I reserved one night here at the last minute. I was assured the inn was a non smoking property.
When I arrived I noticed the prevailing smell of smoke. Woodsmoke. It was everywhere, my guest room, outdoors, in the restaurant, and in the public rooms.
After a few hours of this assault, I decided my fragile lungs could not stand any more. I checked out and was told by the staff at the front desk that the owner would give no refunds. Period.
I am lucky I only reserved one night. I also learned to add another question to my list when choosing a hotel.
I reminded myself that I should always read the fine print. And then I remembered that every time I have had had a problem with accomadations they have always had far too much fine print on their website and literature.
A word to the wise. If you need an attorney to help you make a reservation go elsewhere.
