Dollar-for-dollar, this was the best hotel experience in ages (possibly ever). We stayed there for five nights on the concierge lever for about CN$239 per night! The rooms were immaculately cared for and the Concierge Level staff took excellent care of us the entire week. With breakfast included each morning in the lounge, this value was even better (saved our group of 5 about CN$100 per day!). With the ideal location (could walk everywhere except
Butchard Garden!), exquisite service, and the Old World environment, it was amazing! The only downer was that in a hotel like that with a marble bathroom, you would think that they would have more than a small plastic bathtub. THAT was the ONLY complaint the entire stay!

Tea at the Empress was very expensive and not worth it!!! Have had high tea in nicer hotels for less money. Three out of the five chairs we sat in had tears in them. The hotel needs to be refurbished. We were two families traveling together and one of the rooms was so small you could walk past each other in the room. Both rooms were clean and bathrooms updated. Hotel at 100% capacity and staff was friendly but obviously stressed. Concierge was almost
never at her station. The bellman and doorman gave us information because no one else was available.

When we were at The Empress in September, we found that the rooms are all different (in decor and size). Some -- ours for one -- are so small that you have to go out into the hall to change even your mind. Service in the hotel restuarant in haughty and even rude. My complaint to the hotel management regarding the service in the restuarant was not even acknowledged. Not one word of reply. So sad!
