La Villa Antoine

Fodor's Review:

Hidden behind hedges in tony Kerrisdale, it's easy to miss this jewel. The 1910 heritage home is so private that staying here feels like being an invited houseguest. There are two large and bright bedrooms upstairs and a two-room suite on the main floor which, with its separate TV den and adjacent private bathroom, is ideal for families. The welcoming lounge has a fireplace and piano; there's a library/Internet room, and a carefully tended, private front garden where flowers thrive in the southern exposure. Stay over the weekend, and on Sunday morning you're likely to enjoy breakfast to the accompaniment of bells from the church across the road. Major public transit intersections are nearby, too. Pros: Informal hospitality, private south-facing garden. Cons: A bit off the beaten track and most easily accessed by car, though you might have to park a block or two away when evening church events are on.
