Celebrity-chef Robert Feenie is no longer associated with this long-acclaimed restaurant, but Dale MacKay, formerly of Gordon Ramsay's Maze Restaurant in New York, has taken on the chef's toque and has retained this sophisticated, contemporary, French dining room's carefully choreographed, frequently changing multicourse set menus. Whether you choose seafood, vegetarian, or the elaborate 12-course signature menu, expect to spend more than C$100 per person, not including wine, for these creative takes on French cuisine, using regionally sourced organic produce. Although the main dining room offers only a prix-fixe option, you can sample the chef's other creations at the à la carte (and somewhat less pricey) tasting bar.

I will admit upfront that I am a bit of a foodie and have been fortunate to eat and enjoy meals at some of the top restaurants around the world. Lumiere is one of Canada's top restaurants. The food is outstanding, portion sizes large for a tasting menu and only the service and restaurant space knocks it a rung or two below the United States' top restaurant The French Laundry.
