C Restaurant
C Restaurant Review
Save your pennies, fish fans—dishes such as crispy trout served with oven-dried tomato and braised fennel, spice-rubbed tuna grilled ultrarare, or lingcod paired with smoked-ham-hock broth have established this spot as Vancouver's most innovative seafood restaurant. Start with shucked oysters from the raw bar or perhaps the seared scallops wrapped in octopus "bacon," and finish with an assortment of handmade chocolate truffles and petits fours. The elaborate six- or 14-course tasting menus with optional wine pairings highlight regional seafood. Both the ultramodern interior and the waterside patio overlook False Creek, but dine before dark to enjoy the view.

C has been quite reviewed and rated rather highly so...
The service was pretty ok,the server was the manager there.
The wine list is extremely over priced. Unfortunately, wine is not cooked or can be hidden, we know the price and are willing to pay a mark up for the glasses etc but come on!
We had the lobster bisque [a bit watery and not very lobster like but was light and not very bisque like. It might have been their style but it was only so-so] and the scallops with beets, truffle foam (oh foam...!) [the scallops were ok, the beets were lovely but the truffle foam was not very necessary... more of a bling bling issue].
The beef rib eye with mushrooms and spetzle was nice, actually very nice. The Sablefish (a speciality) was salty and really very ordinary. The ingredients were good, the baby veg lovely but the taste??? hmmm... and then we had the Trout on some baked beans... which was quite tasteless. The beans were heavy and err... tasteless. I don't know why this dish exists -

We chose C Restaurant after it was listed in the National Posts list of top Canadian restaurants&BIG MISTAKE! Sadly, C Restaurant was a huge disappointment.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted with a scowl from the hostess.
Overall, the décor seemed almost as if they were in a temporary location.
The one and only waiter had a condescending attitude. It would have been nice if he could have asked for our drink order before asking for the meal order!
The menu was unique. Never in my life have I seen a restaurant charge for an amuse bouche. What a slap in the face! The wine list was blatantly overpriced. It was an extensive wine list but the prices of our favorites were almost criminal! The food prices were very high&no problem when the quality and service matches¬ the case at this restaurant. The food was amazingly bland. Everything we ordered lacked flavor. The ingredients seemed fresh and top quality&there was just no flavor! My lobster bisque could have passed for a bland tomato or squash bisque...was it really lobster? It was served table-side in a tureen (nice touch), but it was not very hot...kind of defeats the purpose of the tureen!
My partners halibut salad was not far off from grocery store quality tuna salad.
My scallop main course was very bland except for the bitter, tough, greasy, overcooked risotto cake. What a nasty aftertaste! Just imagine a two day-old, re-fried McDonalds hash brown and you will have an idea about the risotto cake.
Again, the partners beef main course was tough and its sauce was also bland. His steamed greens were SO salty!
We skipped desert.
Upon leaving, we passed the hostess (manager?) but she did not even acknowledge us on the way out.
Vancouver has some superb restaurants with great food and service. Obviously, no one is watching over the details at C Restaurant.
