Vancouver has three Hostelling International locations: a former hotel in the downtown core, above a boisterous bar; a big hostel set in parkland at Jericho Beach in Kitsilano; and a smaller building in a residential neighborhood near English Bay. Each has private rooms for two to four people; bunks in men's, women's, and coed dorms (with bedding and lockers); a shared kitchen, a TV lounge, and a range of free or low-cost tours and activities. The central hostel has rooms with private baths and TVs and is the pricier location; the Jericho, with the cheapest rates, is open only in the summer. Pros: Great staff, cheap and clean but you get what you pay for. Cons: Not for the fussy traveler, lots of students, dorm accommodations can be noisy with snorers and night owls who come in late.
