Buchan Hotel Review

On a tree-lined residential street a block from Stanley Park, this 1926 pension-style hotel is one of Vancouver's best values. Popular with cyclists thanks to its bike storage area, the Buchan also provides free coffee and tea and a lounge with a fireplace. Rooms are simple but comfortable, with old-fashioned radiators. Rooms without baths have hand basins.

    Location, Location, Locaton.....

I was scared when I checked into the Buchan Hotel. It is on a lovely tree-lined street but the hall and the room looked entirely too seedy for my taste. There was barely room to get around the bed and the furniture and linens looked tired and used. The TV was about the size of my iPad.
HOWEVER.......by the time I checked out, I had learned to appreciate the Buchan. Everything was clean - bottom line. There was coffee in the lounge in the morning and always a helpful concierge at the front desk. And, best of all, it was less than 2 blocks to Denman Street where every kind of cuisine known to man, including several on my "must do" list, were within blocks. It was perfect to leave to hotel in the evening and cruise Denman Street. Chic multiracial hipsters pack the sidewalks and Maseratis, Bentleys, and Ferraris are a dime a dozen. An unbelievable array of noodle shops, sushi bars, bistros, coffee shops, bakeries, and so on are jammed together. And at each end of the ten or so blocks is water. Take your pick. A beach or a bay, back dropped with mountains.
So if you are not expecting much in the way of amenities, I'd definitely recommend the Buchan.
