Stained glass, antiques, and art nouveau fixtures decorate this comfortable 1904 heritage house on a tree-lined residential street a few blocks from downtown or Stanley Park, and a fireplace, leather couch, and extensive DVD/CD library make it a cozy rainy-day hangout. All units (except the Mountain) have private sitting rooms; several have claw-foot tubs and a brass, mahogany, or canopy queen bed. The Mountain Room has its own little Juliette balcony. Peace is assured, as there are no adjoining walls between guest rooms and staff are exceptionally helpful. Breakfast is a generous Continental menu with one hot dish; if the weather's warm, ask to enjoy it under the garden gazebo. Pros: Snazzy heritage upgrade, residential neighborhood, private, helpful staff. Cons: Not wheelchair accessible: there are a number of stairs and no elevator.
