The copper roof of this 1939 château-style hotel dominates Vancouver's skyline, and the hotel itself is considered the city's gracious grande dame. Guest rooms vary in size, but even the standard rooms have an atmosphere of prestige, with high ceilings, lush draperies, and 19th-century-style mahogany furniture. Two friendly dogs (Mavis and Boe) are on hand for petting and walking, and the full-service spa here was Canada's first to cater to men, with big-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, and black-leather pedicure chairs. Pros: The male-oriented spa, great location for shopping, the architecture. Cons: Regal size makes it a shade impersonal, diversity of "standard" room sizes can be irritating for guests expecting a room similar to the one they stayed in before.

This is the third Hotel Vancouver since the 1800's and has been around since the 1930's but was fully renovated back to its original character a few years ago. The location is close to everything - Art Gallery, Shopping and SkyTrain. The service is about the best I have ever experienced. The hotel lounge is a pleasent place to pass some time if you are meeting a group of friends.
