Moda Hotel

900 Seymour St., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

This century-old boutique hotel is stylish and good-value. Architectural details like the recessed ceilings, gold-painted sconces, and the lobby's 1920s-style black-and-white tile floor exude ambiance, but rooms are more minimalist—and quite comfortable. The hotel is on a busy intersection near Granville Street's "Entertainment District," so ask for a quieter room at the back; they overlook a parking lot but you'll probably sleep better. As with many old buildings, there aren't many light sockets, the elevators can be slow, and the air conditioning isn't top of the line, but the prices are quite reasonable.
