Vancouver's Best Food Trucks
The food truck revolution has come to Vancouver. A growing number of mobile kitchens have taken to the streets, selling fresh juices, spicy tacos, downhome barbecue, freshly caught seafood, and more. Needless to say, the assortment is as eclectic as the region's multicultural mix. Most trucks operate downtown during the lunch hours, generally from 11 or 11:30 until 2:30 or 3, although when they sell out, they close up for the day. Some trucks roll into town only on weekdays.
Feastro. This purple "rolling bistro" serves local seafood (salmon or halibut tacos, Fanny Bay oysters, fish-and-chips), sweet-potato fries, soups, and other options. It's usually found at West Cordova Street at Thurlow Street, near the Vancouver Convention Centre in Downtown (www.feastro.ca).
The Juice Truck. Freshly squeezed juices and fruit smoothies are on offer at the corner of Abbott Street and Water Street in Gastown (www.thejuicetruck.ca).
La Brasserie. Run by the Davie Street bistro of the same name, this truck sells tasty rotisserie chicken sandwiches on buttermilk buns. Look for it at West Georgia Street at Granville Street in Downtown (www.labrasserievancouver.com).
Mom's Grilled Cheese Truck. Triple-decker grilled cheese sandwiches (made with love, of course) can be had at Howe Street at West Georgia Street in Downtown (www.momsgrilledcheesetruck.com).
Re-Up BBQ. Pulled pork on a Portuguese bun, beef brisket sandwiches, and sweet iced tea are on the bill of fare at two Downtown locations: 700 Hornby Street at West Georgia Street, and 800 Robson Street between Hornby and Howe (www.reupbbq.com).
Roaming Dragon. A changing menu of Pan-Asian creations, including Korean short-rib tacos, soba-noodle salad, and Chinese pork sliders, is available at the Kitsilano Farmer's Market, Burrard Street at Robson Street (www.roamingdragon.com).
