Fodor's Expert Review Fairburn Farmstay and Guesthouse
3310 Jackson Rd., Duncan, British Columbia, V9L 6N7, Canada
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This 1896 homestead on 130 pastoral acres is the centerpiece of a historic farm, Canada's first water-buffalo dairy; kids, in particular, enjoy watching the milking. Overnight guests staying in the cozy but simply furnished meadow-view rooms are treated to a hearty farm breakfast. A 1930s workers' cottage sleeps five, though rates in the cottage, which is strictly self-catering, don't include breakfast. Proprietor Maryann Hartmann grew up on the farm; she and her husband Brett are now raising their own family here.PROS
- peaceful rural surroundings
- family-friendly atmosphere
CONS
- old-fashioned rooms
- at the end of a country road some distance from town
