Fodor's Expert Review Fort Whoop-Up

Lethbridge Military Sight

Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.

The main attraction in Lethbridge, Fort Whoop-Up, part of the Indian Battle Park, is a reconstruction of a southern Alberta whiskey fort established in 1869 by desperadoes from Fort Benton, Montana. It became the largest of many similar forts that sprang up illegally on the Canadian prairies. Along with costumed reenactments, weapons, relics, and a 15-minute audiovisual historical presentation, Fort Whoop-Up has horse-drawn wagon tours of the river valley and other points of historical interest.
