Snow Days. A highlight of this monthlong winter celebration is the Ice Magic winter festival, which features world-class ice carving and outdoor events. There's also a 3-on-3 ball hockey tournament and a Mountain Adventure Weekend, where you can try ice climbing and other exhilarating outdoor activities and watch mountain films. Christmas in the Rockies and Santa Claus Parade. Banff welcomes the holiday season with a one-day event featuring photos with that jolly old elf in Central Park, craft shows, children's ice-carving stations, and an evening parade of lights. Banff Summer Arts Festival. The longest running arts festival in Canada takes place every summer at the Banff Centre and features film screenings, visual-art displays, theater, opera, dance, literary readings, speakers, and musical productions. 403/762–6300. www.banffcentre.ca/bsaf.

Canada Day. This holiday means free admission to the national park, as well as big celebrations in Canmore and Banff that include parades, fireworks, and live music. 403/762–0285. www.banff.com.
