This hotel, 2 km (1 mile) south of downtown Banff, is the town's architectural showpiece and a National Historic Site. Built in 1888, the hotel is easily recognized by its castle-like exterior. Heritage Hall, a small, free museum above the Grand Lobby, has rotating exhibits on the area's history and is open daily from 9 to 9. Historical tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday at 3 pm and are free for hotel guests or C$15 for nonguests.

Early last fall my wife and I began our trip through Banff, Yoho, and Jasper NP's, Cariboo, Whistler, Victoria, and Vancouver at this hotel. The two days we spent here set the tone for the best two weeks we have ever had traveling. The view out the back of this hotel will forever be burnt in my mind's eye. Excellent restaurants, spa, and service too. The rooms are a little small but, so what.

A truly majestic fixture befitting its location, nestled in the Rocky Mountains. You will awed by its appearance as you approach the hotel, and feel like Royalty when you enter.
