The building of this massive castle-like hotel by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888 marked the beginning of Banff's tourism boom. The hotel retains its historic elegance and magnificent views of the Bow River and surrounding peaks, but now includes modern amenities that make for a luxurious lodging experience. Pampering is an art at the world-class Willow Stream spa. Restaurants, bars, and lounges of varying formality and cuisine create a small culinary universe. In summer about 200 rooms per night are reserved for individual travelers on inclusive resort packages. If the hotel is the focus of your visit to Banff, these packages represent good value. Rates decrease substantially off-season.
