About 15 mi (24 km) southeast of Banff Townsite, Canmore became a modest boomtown with the 1988. It attracts a mix of tourists, residents who seek a mountain lifestyle, and commuters from Calgary who feel the hour-long commute is a fair trade-off for living in the mountains. Canmore makes a good base for exploring both Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park, without the crowds or cost of Banff.
