Disaster Point Animal Lick

  • Address: Hwy. 16, 33 mi northeast of Jasper, Jasper National Park, AB | Map It

Fodor's Review:

Disaster Point Animal Lick, less than 3 mi (5 km) before Highway 16 from Jasper reaches the turn for Miette Hot Springs, is the most easily accessible spot in the park for encountering bighorn sheep; it's a rare summer moment when the sheep haven't descended from the adjacent steep slopes to lick up the mineral-rich mud, wandering back and forth across the road. You're likely to see numerous cars stopped by the side of the road.
