Cafe Flora

Fodor's Review:

This sweet restaurant off the beaten path in the leafy Madison Park neighborhood offers vegetarian and vegan food for grown-ups who want more than grilled tofu but don't want to splurge at Carmelita in Greenwood. The menu changes frequently, though the chefs tend to keep things simple, offering dishes like black-bean burgers with spicy aioli, polenta with leeks and spinach, and the very popular "Oaxaca tacos" (corn tortillas filled with potatoes and four types of cheese) at both lunch and dinner. Make sure you sit in the "Atrium," which has a stone fountain, skylight, slate floors, and garden-style café tables and chairs -- the other dining room is nice, too, but it's more generic and reminiscent of the kind of upscale coffeeshop you'd find on the ground floor of a mid-range chain hotel. Brunch is very popular -- great waffles made with fresh seasonal fruits -- -but the hectic scene kind of mars the serenity of the place, which is an important part of the equation.
