Bodies of Water, Green Lake
Fodor's Review:
This beautiful 342-acre park is a favorite of Seattleites, who jog, blade, bike, and walk their dogs along the 2.8-mi paved path that surrounds the lake. Beaches on both the east and west sides (around 72nd Street) have lifeguards and swimming rafts. Boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats can be rented at Greenlake Boat Rental on the eastern side of the lake. There are also basketball and tennis courts and baseball and soccer fields. A first-rate play area includes a giant sandbox, swings, slides, and all the climbing equipment a child could ever dream of -- plus lots of grassy areas and benches where adults can take a break. The park is generally packed, especially on weekends. And you'd better love dogs: the canine-to-human ratio here is just about even. Surrounding the park are lovely middle- and upper-class homes, plus a compact commercial district where you can grab some snacks after your walk.
