Hi-Life

¢-$, American, Ballard

Fodor's Review:

The Hi-Life is the most versatile restaurant in Ballard. In a converted firehouse, the echoey space has the familiar feeling of a TGI Friday's, which makes it a safe bet for families, but it also has personality enough to appeal to everyone from yuppies sending messages on their Blackberrys to tattooed hipsters nursing hangovers with heaping portions of rich French toast. From morning until night, the Hi-Life has something to satisfy -- you can get small plates, full entrées, wood-fired pizzas, breakfast until 3 PM, and so on. The standards are done very well -- salads and burgers never disappoint -- but the kitchen can also handle more-creative dishes like chorizo-and-shrimp empanadas and breaded oxtail with marscarpone polenta. Note that Hi-Life does close for two hours between lunch and dinner from 3 PM to 5 PM.
