Pink Door

$-$$, Italian, Downtown

User Rating: **** 3.8

Fodor's Review:

With its Post Alley entrance and meager signage, many enjoy the Pink Door's speakeasy-ness almost as much as the savory Italian food. In warm months patrons partake on the deck shaded by a grape arbor while enjoying the stunning view of Elliott Bay. The roasted garlic and tapenade are eminently shareable appetizers; spaghetti alla puttanesca (with anchovies, capers, and tomatoes), and cioppino are standout entrées, though nothing stands too far out -- people come here mostly for the atmosphere. The whimsical bar is often crowded, the staff is saucy and irreverent, and cabaret acts regularly perform on a small corner stage. There's no place quite like it.

Funky and fun, but a bit pricey for what you get

The soup (squash served in a carved out pumkin) was delicous, as was my cioppino, but some of the other entrees--rabbit, gnochi, greens, and pheasant weren't that great. The service was excellent, as was the bread (tasted like Grand Central Como to me, but am not sure) and there was a jazz singer, but it was loud, and as I mentioned, pricey for what you get.
