Volterra

$-$$, Italian, Ballard

Fodor's Review:

For those who favor Italian cooking over French, Volterra has eclipsed Le Gourmand as Ballard's special-occasion restaurant. It's another victim of the deep-red-walls syndrome that Seattle can't seem to rid itself of, but with its black-and-white accents, skylight, and large framed photos of Italy, it's very attractive nonetheless. The restaurant gets the most attention for dishes like wild boar tenderloin and fresh seafood baked in parchment, but it's not too taken with itself to offer something as simple as linguine in clam sauce. The long wine list features many Tuscan wines, as well as selections from other Italian regions.
