¢-$, Thai, Fremont
Fodor's Review:
The flashier Jai Thai restaurant on Fremont Avenue might catch a lot of visitors as they get off the bus, but locals know to keep walking down 36th Street to a little house that produces some of the best Thai food in Seattle. Kwanjai serves simple, authentic (just check out grandma chopping vegetables in the open kitchen) dishes; curries are very good, as are the seafood specials. Be careful when you tell them how spicy you want your food -- even two stars can be hot enough to make your nose run. This is a no-frills kind of place, but the tangerine walls and warm lighting make it cozy at night.
