Maximilien

$$-$$$$, French, Downtown

User Rating: ***** 4.6

Fodor's Review:

Despite its great views of the sound and the Olympic Mountains, romantic Maximilien remains a well-kept secret. That's because it's tucked away in Pike Place Market behind Market Spice and a butcher shop, and it's not easy to find unless you know the way. Persevere; you'll be delighted. Under previous owner François Kissel, Maximilien was one of Julia Child's favorite Seattle restaurants. Nothing much has changed under the current owner (and former employee) Axel Macé: the bistro-style food is still very good, and the mood is still very French.

Terrific French Peasant Food!

Posted by Jazz from Seattle on 5/21/06

I love this gem of a place. Food here always hits the spot. In the winter, the soups, stews and sandwiches are hearty and filling. In the summer, the mussels with a salad and a glass of chilled white wine are light, rich and make you happy to just be alive and at Pike Place Market. The bread served at this bistro is wonderful. Don't take my word for it - try it for yourself!
