$$$-$$$$, Contemporary, Edisto Island
Fodor's Review:
On par with Charleston and Savannah kitchens -- but with none of their big-city pretense -- the Old Post Office is the best restaurant in this sleepy part of the state. The house specialties are shrimp and grits and, well, anything else with grits. Try signature dishes like "fussed-over" pork chops served with locally grown greens and fresh-baked bread. The green tomatoes come fried or in a soup garnished with crab.
