Art and antiques abound in a circa 1820 home turned storybook inn. Look for the little luxuries -- down pillows and duvets, a CD player in each room, and fresh flowers. The best rooms open out onto the veranda (No. 2) or the courtyard garden (No. 7). Breakfast, afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres, and dessert are included in the rate. Visiting celebrities have included Barbra Streisand, Jeff Bridges, and Dennis Quaid. The remodeled house across the street has eight more rooms, each of which has a gas fireplace, a whirlpool bath, a private entrance, and a porch.

The Most Romantic Inn in the Lowcountry
Posted by Kimberly from Sarasota, FL on 7/11/06
This picturesque, romantic Inn in the heart of Beaufort, South Carolina is the epitome of southern charm. Picture yourself sipping sweet tea on the verandah while swinging on a porch swing, and you get the idea of what The Rhett House Inn is all about. Just blocks from the beach, and within walking distance of everything to see in Beaufort, this is a stop on your southern journey you won't want to miss.

Don't let the drive into town fool you
Posted by Terri from East Bay, California on 9/28/05
I'd never been to Beaufort until a few weeks ago. I must admit I was concerned. I flew into Columbia, SC and started driving... AND driving. The sight of strip malls coming into town did NOT bode well.
Then we got into the old district. Glorious churches and cemeteries. Gorgeous old homes. Then we got to the Inn. It was more gorgeous than the pictures. Our room was spectacular and Barbara and her staff couldn't have been nicer. Everyone was so gracious. The breakfasts are delicious and the evening snacks were a very nice touch.
Barbara gave us wonderful tips on places to dine and sight-see. Walking around the neighborhood was really fun, in spite of the humidity.
Hunting Island Park is minutes away and absolutely worth the drive as well. And Hemingway's (a funky little bar on the waterfront) is really kind of fun.
