Beaches, Parks, Edisto Island
Fodor's Review:
Edisto Beach State Park covers 1,255 acres and includes marshland and tidal rivers, a 1 1/2-mi-long beachfront, towering palmettos, and a lush maritime forest with a 3 1/2-mi trail running through it. The one-time CCC project park has the best shelling on public property in the Lowcountry. Overnight options include rustic furnished cabins by the marsh and campsites by the ocean (although severe erosion is limiting availability). Luxury resort development has begun to encroach around the edges of the park.
