Anson

$$$-$$$$, Southern, Market Area

User Rating: **** 4.1

Fodor's Review:

Nearly a dozen windows afford views of passing horse-drawn carriages from this restaurant. The softly lighted, gilt-trim dining room is extremely romantic. Southern specialties are favored, like shrimp and grits (served as an appetizer) and oysters fried in cornmeal (on the bar menu). The she-crab soup is some of the best around. The chef takes liberty with Lowcountry classics, like the crispy flounder in apricot sauce and the roasted red snapper with succotash and shrimp.

A little pricey but worth it. Service, menu, atmosphere....You'll go back over and over again.

Atmosphere is odd

Good food- not that interesting but good. Atmosphere is lacking- maybe upstairs is better but downstairs has strange decor-- no charm at all. Would not take much to add some atmosphere. Okra with chili oil and goat cheese- needs more chili oil. Grouper was old school- could be better- sides were very boring with the grouper. Scallops were good.
