Fodor's Review:
Even casual passersby enjoy gazing up at the handblown Moreno glass chandelier in the hotel's open lobby, clicking across the Italian marble floors, and admiring the antiques from Sotheby's. A gallery of upscale shops complete the ground floor. Rooms are furnished with period reproductions. The impeccable service is what you would expect from an Orient-Express property. A truly deluxe day spa, with an adjacent fitness room, has an inviting indoor pool illuminated by skylights. Even if you aren't staying here, stop by for high tea at the equestrian-theme Thoroughbred Club.

We recently stayed at Charleston Place for the fourth time. It is exceptional in every way. The staff is friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is outstanding, and the location could not be better. Try the "Club Level" for a truly wonderful experience. (Cold breakfast buffet - afternoon tea - cocktail hour - after dinner cordials and deserts, all included in the "Club Level" floors.) This is our favorite hotel anywhere, hands down.RATING: 4.8
well worth it...again and again

my sister convinced my husband and i to spend a long weekend here oh- about six years ago. i am typically skeptical of the choices of hotels she makes since her and my brother in-law make considerably more money and can afford more. anyways this was their treat as a kind of wedding present for us. the service and whole experience was phenomenal then and still is- we've gone back every year! the spa services were amazing and the mother to be massage is something i have looked forward to getting with each of my three pregnancies. the food is excellent and we've never heard an "i can't" from any of the management or the staff. my sister is in love with the place and has made me a believer too. we've both been to a lot of hotels- worldwide, we grew up as military brats and lived in more than a dozen places growing up, and this is one of our favorites to go back too.RATING: 4.8
Southern Hospitality at its Finest

We stayed on the club level during President's Week and we had the most wonderful, relaxing time! From the staff on the club level, to the bartenders, waiters and waitresses, to the jazz downstairs, everything was amazing and we cannot wait to return. The friendliness and genuine graciousness with which we "Yankees" were received was impressive and all-around fantastic. Thank you, Charleston Place, for a wondeful getaway!!RATING: 5.0
Same old Charleston building for triple the price!

This place is way over-rated. I have stayed at most four star hotels in Charleston and other cities and while nice, Charleston Place are simply crazily over priced. The rooms are not particularly large or glamorous for three hundred plus per night. The spa also looks great from the outside but for the price (double that of other GREAT spas in Charleston) the services were very blah.RATING: 3.0

I reside about three hours from Charleston and having lived and worked there while my husband was in medical school at MUSC, we love to come back and visit. Seeing one very negative comment about this hotel, I wanted to give my opinion. You could not ask for a better location because it is in the middle of everything. Our rooms have been lovely and I don't ever recall seeing dirty carpet or scratched furniture. The hotel staff has ALWAYS been wonderful to work with and quick to check on any request that we might have. It would be nice to get a cup of coffee on your floor but there is a great Starbuck's directly across the street--two minutes away. We always love staying here and will be there on our next visit.RATING: 4.8
