McMenamins Kennedy School

$-$$, Alberta District

User Rating: **** 4.4

Fodor's Review:

In a renovated elementary school in northeast Portland, the Kennedy School may well be one of the most unusual hotels you'll ever encounter. With all of the guest rooms occupying former classrooms, complete with the original chalkboards and cloakrooms, and with small bars known as Detention Bar (with cigars and one of the only two TVs on site) and Honors Bar (with classical music and cocktails), the McMenamins brothers have created a multi-use facility that is both luxurious and fantastical. Room rates include movie admission and use of the outdoor soaking pool.

I liked the Kennedy School because it is in a quiet residential area. Many of the local neighbors show up to go to the funky theatre, hang out in the restaurant and bar. It has a hot - or soaking tub/pool that is lovely.
