No standard hotel rooms in Manhattan are larger or more luxe than those at the Mandarin. Black-enamel furniture is embellished with Asian-inspired silver drawer pulls; silk-encased throw pillows nearly cover the plush beds; marble-ensconced bathrooms are larger than some New York apartments. Since the hotel begins on the 35th floor, views of the city, especially Central Park, are paramount; even the swimming pool has floor-to-ceiling windows and Hudson River vistas. Contemporary art, notably two glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly, graces the cavernous public spaces; the hotel also contains an elaborate spa, glass-enclosed lounge, and the Asiate restaurant. You'll pay for all this pleasure -- rates start at $745 per night.

Mixed Feelings about this place

Having stayed here on an expense account, I feel like I shouldn't complain, but my $599.00 a night room was nothing extraordinary. The view was wonderful, but lots of hotels in NYC have good views. The room seemed to be similar to a starwood property, like a nice Westin or W Hotel, it had a modern asian feel to it, nice, but not stunning by any means, and like the previous posts stated, yes....it was small, not much space to move around. However, this hotel is unique in that it's on the 35-54th floors, so no matter what room you get, you have a birds eye view.

Three Star Service with a Five Star Price

I totally agree with previous posts, the hotel is just living off it's name. Yea, Mandarin has some good hotels around the world (San Francisco and Hawaii come to mind), but the New York property is not one of their top hotels. Front desk staff were in another world, they seemed almost overwhelmed with guests simple requests. Rooms are small for the price, I think they are only 400 square feet. The restuarants are ok, but not at all worth the prices they change. Views, however, are out of this world, the best views that any NY hotel has. Rates are extreme (even for NYC), a park view for $1,000 a night? Most hotels sell suites for that price, here you get a room. Next time i'll try another hotel.

Not worth the steep price tag!

We just returned from a two night stay at the Mandarin. The good news is that the hotel is in a fantastic location, close to everything, shopping, times square ect....The bad news, when a two day stay costs thousands of dollars, the staff should be at you're service around the clock. We had a problem with check in---they said they only had twin bedded rooms available, even though we reserved a king...After about 15 mins, of looking in the computer they finally found a non-smoking king with a view of the park..They told us we reserved a room witha twin but we did not, im sure of it, the reservation agent messed up. The rate was very, very high $995.00 plus taxes of almost 15% per night. When we got into the room, we both said the same thing, wow this room is small, and for $1,000 a night, I want space!! After the second night, we checked out and moved to the Four Seasons on 57th street, for $100 a night less we got a room that was 600 square feet and had a terrace, skip the Mandarin unless you get a rate under $500.
