Sofitel New York

$$, Midtown West

User Rating: ***** 4.7

Fodor's Review:

The European hotel group's property is a dramatic, contemporary 30-story curved tower overlooking 5th Avenue. The place has international sophistication that manages to be unfussy, with a gracious lobby, an elegant French restaurant (Gaby, named for a Parisian model who made a name for herself in the Big Apple in the 1920s), and courteous staff who are always on hand with a friendly "Bonjour." Upstairs, the rooms -- in tones of earth and mahogany -- aim to please with plush beds, stall showers, and bathtubs; the best rooms have balconies and views of the Chrysler Building.

Exceptional Property

Second stay at a Sofitel property (first was Philadelphia). I am a big fan. Staff was extremely polite and helpful. Room was modern, fresh, comfortable and, most important, immaculately clean. Location is excellent and price, for NYC, was reasonable.

Quiet Jewel of a Hotel Steps Away from Everything...

Posted by John from Birmingham, AL on 6/15/06

I've stayed in at least 2 dozen NY hotels all across the board and around the City and this hotel, by far, is the best! From the spacious lobby to the impeccable service, the Sofitel is a great choice. While there over St. Patrick's Day (what was I thinking?), I realized the street would be closed at just the hour I needed to get to LaGuardia. No problem, said the bellman and he proceeded to guide me and my luggage a block over and get me a cab. No small feat! And a level of service I'd never seen before in NY. I'll stay at the Sofitel again and again and again. It's just that great! Everyone says you don't go to NY to stay in your room, but I sure like to come back to a serene, clean and VERY comfortable environment after a long day of business or pleasure - or a little bit of both. My small suite was so nice I invited about 10 friends over one night for cocktails - again, the bellstaff could NOT have been more accomodating and helpful. The Sofitel does not disappoint! And to me, that's value in New York.
