Fodor's Review:

This affordable hotel has some fun with its art deco café and playful floor patterning, but the rooms are surprisingly conservative, with patterned bedspreads and curtains and traditional wooden headboards (an odd juxtaposition to the modern art prints on the walls). For the price, bathrooms and bedrooms are remarkably spacious, some featuring kitchenettes and two full beds. A helpful desk staff and location convenient to theaters make this a great budget choice.

Basic, clean,cheap, wonderful location--

Posted by Clem from New Mexico, USA on 8/22/06

Our family of 4 spent 5 nights in mid August 2006. It was perfect for our needs. There are no frills, the service is mediocre and the elevator takes forever. But at these rates what do you expect? It was spacious, clean, quiet and the windows opened for real NYC air. Location w/in short walk to theaters and close to major subway and bus lines. Cabs await out front. Great for family. Not for romantic getaway. Skip their overpriced breakfast.

What happened?

Posted by Cindy from Baltimore, Md on 8/1/06

I had stayed at the Belvedere in the past and enjoyed my stay. This visit left me wondering if management has changed. First, they don't have enough bellmen. I waited and waited for my bag and eventually had to come downstairs and get it myself. The elevators are extremely slow, leave extra time coming and going. I had to wait past several carloads in order to move from the 2nd floor to the 10th. When I went to look something up in the yellow pages, some of the pages were torn out. I went to the manager for a new one and he wouldn't replace it. He had me bring the old one back to the room. These were minor annoyances, but on our last day there we went out for a little while in the morning, we left our bags with the bellman, but didn't check out. We wanted to use the refrigerator until checkout in order to keep some food fresh longer. I had even called in the morning to make sure that we would have the use of the room until check out time. We came back around 11;30 (check out time was 12:00) and our room had been cleaned and the refrigerator emptied. We had not checked out, or turned in our keys, but several things that we had purchased had been thrown out. The reception manager was unwilling to do anything about this in fact, she tried to put the blame on us, saying we had vacated the room. I like the hotel rooms, the location is good, but the prices at $269 for Friday, $299 for Saturday and $189 for Sunday, plus tax, were not cheap. I would expect better service. There is a Best Western President on the same street in a slightly better location that I will try next time.

Great location, The price is right!! Come on Down

Great room, great location, great price in midtown Manhattan. The concierge was very helpful as was the front desk, bell hops, door man, etc. I would definitely stay here again, especially at the price we received by booking the room early. We were within walking distance of virtually everything we planned to do in NYC. Check out the restaurants on 9th avenue from 47th St north. Great restaurants that don't just cater to tourists, but to the locals as well.

Took 75 year old parents and two teen-agers to NYC

Posted by Diane from New Mexico on 3/30/06

The hotel is very conveniently located to many sights and we were able to walk most places with my parents. They enjoyed their stay but complained about the noise of the city. There is a fire station on the corner of the block and emergency vehicles were called at all hours. After a while, we adapted to the noise. We all loved the proximity to Broadway shows and fabulous restaurants.
