Las Vegas: By Monorail

By Monorail

The monorail, which was begun in 1995 and greatly expanded in 2004, gives Las Vegas an even more Disney-esque look. The monorail stretches from MGM Grand, on the south, to the Sahara, to the north, with several stops in between, and makes the 4-mi trip in about 14 minutes. To head farther south to Mandalay Bay, walk across the Strip and pick up the small, free monorail at the Excalibur. To the north, a downtown monorail extension is in the planning stages but completion is several years away. Also, although it's a fairly short walk (10 minutes tops) between the Mirage and Treasure Island casinos, you can also get between them on the free tram that runs roughly every 10 to 15 minutes, 9 AM-1 AM.

The monorail runs Monday-Thursday 7 AM-2 AM, Friday-Sunday 7 AM-3 AM. Fares are $5 for one ride, $9 for two rides, $35 for 10 rides, $15 for a one-day pass, and $40 for a three-day pass. You can purchase tickets at station vending machines or in advance online.
