New owners took over the Golden Nugget in 2003 and again in 2005; since that time, the place has continued to rank as downtown's leading property, although it doesn't have quite the flair it did back when Steve Wynn operated it. Among its neighbors, the hotel has the biggest and best pool. The well-kept rooms are modern and comfortable, with desks, high-speed Internet, armoires, and marble bathrooms. Casino policies are inconsistent, but a popular permanent poker room is likely to last.

Sleep Elsewhere

We were very disappointed in our stay at The Golden Nugget in July 2007. We stayed in the south tower and our room had a horrible smell that was obviously trying to be covered with some foul room deoderizer. There was black mold growing in the shower, the toilet hardly flushed, and the shower did not drain well so we ended up standing in dirty water. And... if that wasn't enough, we could hear the elevator running all night long. The new pool wasn't even very impressive because the pool portion is much too small for the number of people in the water. Do yourself a huge favor... spend a few extra dollars and stay at a nicer hotel on the strip.

Disappointing

Our upgraded room in the North Tower was on the Fremont Street side and you could hear some of the sounds from the Fremont experience which is not what you want when trying to sleep. There were no other rooms available. What made matters worse was the springs in the mattress. My wife had to sleep on a pillow in order not to feel the springs. The special Sunday night seafood buffet was like eating in a cafeteria. Quality was mediocre. Overall not what we had hoped for. Will not go back again.

Inconsiderate Hosts at Golden Nugget/No Class
Posted by James from Pittsburgh on 9/2/06
No question the best casino/hotel to stay downtown. Clean, great rooms, food and gaming. Especially Kevin at Vic & Anthony's . Tillman doing outstanding job restoring this grand casino back to it's glory days. He has one additional problem to correct. He should replace two Hosts...Jim Brattoli and Doug McCollom and one pit supervisor, Doreen Gore. Neigher one of these individuals have any class. Brattoli lies, Doug can't look a "player" in the eyes and Doreen is just plain ignorant. After a recent stay I returned home and sent a bottle of Vintage Dom P. to Brattoli and McCollom, plus a "super" box of Godiva Candy to Doreen. Recently returned from a great stay at the Las Vegas Hilton and while in Vegas stopped by the Nugget to say hello to employee friends I've made during past visits. I ran into Doug and Doreen and they never even said "Thanks" for the "comp" I sent them from my last visit. In addition, my line of credit was cancelled by Brattoli for not staying at the Nugget this visit. No Class! I should have known and accepted this as the norm because Brattoli is a little man hanging on to his job by his A** kissing. Doug is just useless, and as far as Doreen goes I don't think she even knows what day of the week it is. I not writing this review because I lost last time..I won over $4,000. I was just being nice by sending "comps" to above upon returning home. But, I did expect a "Thank You." The problem all three have is they think kindness is a sign of weakness. The sooner Tillman eliminates these individuals the quicker the Golden Nugget will return to it's glory days of the early 60's and 70's.
As for the remaining staff, you couldn't find a better group of people in all of Las Vegas.
Best of Cards,
Jim Gregg

Posted by Michael from los angeles on 12/10/05
They Golden nugget is falling down to due the new owners laundrys and Tillmaan Fertitta. He has layed of alot of employess so i have heard from the employees. I have stayed there recently and i will not becoming back inless these owners change way they are treating employees. If u dont treat your employees good how are they going to treat the guests. I think every one should boycott the golden nugget. This owner is taking down the comps as well to hotel guests.

Great place to lay your head w/out laying down your wallet!

The rooms, the hallways, the hotel itself, were all wonderful...clean & comfortable. And it didn't break the bank. Just tell the annoying timeshare people waiting near the elevator that you don't have a matching address (they need to confirm that you live together to sell to you). The free gifts aren't worth the time. It was a walk to our room, but it was VERY quiet...which helps when you are only giving yourself 5-6 hours of sleep. What's great is that you can walk to krispy kreme for breakfast (hey, it's vacation!) then pick up your car from the garage and park anywhere on the strip for free. Just drive down industrial and cut into the strip where you need to be. Traffic is alaways bad. And I was there in August all week.
