Mesa Grill

$$-$$$$, Southwestern, Caesars Palace

User Rating: *** 2.9

Fodor's Review:

Playful splashes of bright green, blue, red, and yellow offset the swanky curved banquettes and earth tones at American Iron Chef and grill-meister Bobby Flay's first restaurant outside New York City. The menu's decidedly Southwestern but with plenty of contemporary twists, with choices like blue-corn-crusted red snapper with a salsa of cherry tomatoes, green olives, capers, and fiery serrano chiles; and ancho chile-cumin-rubbed rabbit with butternut squash-wild mushroom risotto and pan juices. Some tables have views of the casino sports book. There's an impressive weekend brunch.

Just OK

My husband and I dined at Mesa Grill with two other couples. We received less-than-stellar service from the waitstaff (perhaps because we're rather young???)Our entire party was dressed up. We were seated in the back corner of the restaurant behind a curtain. We had to ask for a wine list, while the other tables around us were given one upon begin seated. When I ordered my entree (the Chile Relleno - a large chile stuffed with chevre), the server condescendingly asked if I had eaten chevre before. We had an appetizer - I believe it was the BBQ duck crepe? It was fine. The entrees were passable - nothing to write home about. My chile itself was delicious but the mushroom sauce tasted like straight-up vinegar. Not the worst meal ever, but not the best. I probably would have had more to say about the ambiance if we weren't seated behind a curtain!

Needed a Fire Extinguisher

Now I know why some celerity chefs are successful! Just over season and add so much heat you can't taste the food. We dined at MEsa lasy night for Mother's Day. What a mistake. Our food was so over seasoned we litterally could not taste a thing. Dining should be enjoyable. Our meal last night was an ordeal in survival. Only bright spot was the bartender. He was awesome. in closing, Mesa is as over rated as Emeril's at the MGM grand. Don't waste your money!

Above and Beyond what We Expected

Posted by FeChefPhx from Phoenix, AZ on 2/19/07

Although my entire family are fans of Bobby Flay, I must admit that we were anticipating just above average Contemporary Southwestern cuisine. We were delighted to discover boldly seasoned proteins, innovative twists on classic Mexican recipes, and very attentive waitstaff who were remarkably knowledgeable about not just the appetizers, entrees and desserts, but also the selection of liquors and mixed drinks available. We remain die-heard Bobby Flay fans and look forward to many more return visits to Mesa Grill.

Flayed by Flay

This restaurant is overrated. Service is terrible, food is average at best. My impression of the Mesa Grille is that it reminds me of a fast food factory. The staff is poorly trained, the restaurant is poorly managed, and the food is highly decorated average food.

"Bobby Flay" was not in the house

Posted by Joe from Detroit Mich on 6/3/06

Dined there on 05/13/06, on a Saturday night, the place was rocking. Groups of four and five hot looking women (Im sure wanting to see Flay who wasnt there). About the food, hit and miss is the best way to describe it. Had a shrimp and roasted corn tamale app, which was awesome, then had pea soup which had a funky flavor to it. My son had a smoked chicken Quasadilla app which he said was outstanding. For main entrees I had the whole fried fish, it sounded good but was ok at best. My one son had New Mexican spice rubbed pork tenderloin, which I tasted, he and I both liked it alot. My other son had a New York strip steak, he could not finish it so I decided to take a bite, it was the most flavorful steak I have ever eaten in my life, one bite wasnt enough, I finished it. Desserts were good, not great. Service was not professional at all, at over a hundred dollars a head not including drinks, no excuse. Also take a Eddie Bauer Parka, they have the tempurature turned down so low you could hang meat in the place. Over all, not worth the money. It was a 300 dollar meal that should have cost about half that.
