The inside of the former home of whaling captain Thomas Worth still evokes its late 18th century origins. In fact, its cozy parlor and antique-filled rooms look as if the captain still lives here. The inn was also the spot where Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote much of his Twice Told Tales during a stay. Many an Edgartonian joins inn guests in the paneled dining room or back garden for breakfast in summertime. Pros: Great value, main inn building is rich in history, close to Edgartown shopping and dining. Cons: No Internet access, doesn't accept credit cards, least-expensive rooms have shared baths.
