The Aquinnah Restaurant

$$$-$$$$, American, Aquinnah

Fodor's Review:

At the far end of the row of fast-food take-out spots and souvenir shops at the Gay Head Cliffs is this restaurant owned and operated by members of the Vanderhoop and Madison families, native Wampanoags. The family took back the lease in 2000 after a four-year hiatus, and the restaurant has regained its reputation as a homey place to eat. For breakfast try the Tomahawk Special, two homemade fish cakes covered with salsa on top of poached eggs with melted cheddar cheese. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, burgers, and healthful-sounding salads. Dinner entrées include sautéed shrimp, scallops, and lobster with rotini in a chardonnay sauce, and striped bass in a mussel-and-saffron sauce. The home-baked pies (banana cream, pecan, or fruit) come wrapped in a moist and flaky crust.
