$$$-$$$$, American, Edgartown
Fodor's Review:
A dark, intimate wine bar and restaurant with hardwood floors and rich banquette seating, Detente serves more than a dozen wines by the glass as well as numerous half-bottles. Even if you're not much of an oenophile, it's worth a trip just for the innovative food, much of it from local farms and seafood purveyors. Try the complex starter of ahi-tuna tartare with toasted pine nuts, vanilla-pear puree, ginger, and arugula salad, followed by such choice entrées as roasted roasted venison loin with thyme spaetzle, sautéed Swiss chard, blue cheese, roasted figs, and a port reduction; or lemon-honey-basted halibut with potato au gratin, truffled leek puree, roasted artichokes, and oven-dried tomatoes.
