Fodor's Review:
A National Historic Landmark, the spectacular Aquinnah Cliffs are part of the Wampanoag reservation land. These dramatically striated walls of red clay are the island's major attraction, as evidenced by the tour bus-filled parking lot. Native American crafts and food shops line the short approach to the overlook, from which you can see the Elizabeth Islands to the northeast across Vineyard Sound and Noman's Land Island -- part wildlife preserve, part military bombing-practice site -- 3 mi off the Vineyard's southern coast.

A quick and very cheap bus ride on the MVTA got us out to the outer reaches of the west coast of Martha's Vineyard. We were told by our inn keepers that we needed to see the cliffs @ Gay Head. We were so glad we got to see this. The best pictures we have from our trip came from here. There is not much to do but appreciate the views, but the trip is well worth it. We were able to check out the view and get back on our bus in about 15 minutes. Take an hour of your trip and get out to Aquinnah to check out the view!RATING: 4.6
