Brewster Inn and Chowder House

Fodor's Review:

The consistently excellent food at this long-standing Cape institution continues to live up to its great reputation among locals. Home cooking in the traditional New England style is the rule; you'll find no fancy or fussy fusion recipes here -- just comfort food. Look for simple but tasty meat and seafood standards, and don't miss the rich and full-bodied New England clam chowder. The service is friendly, the prices are kind, and you won't leave hungry. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily year-round.

My in-laws live in Brewster. When we visit we stop at The Brewster Inn for the clam chowder, it's the best we have had and we are true chowder afficinados!

Horrible Meal

Posted by Grotheur from Pittsburgh, PA on 9/26/07

Everyone in our party was terribly dissapointed. The "Lobster Pie" was a disaster: lobster pieces so overcooked they were actually rubbery, all smothered in a vulgar amount of sherry. The seafood pasta was dry and bland, the only discernable seasoning being stale, dried herbs. My broiled scallops were decent, until I nearly choked on a half-inch shard of clam shell. This was amateur bar food at best and they would be better off sticking to burgers and fries. On a side note, the prices listed on the official Fodor's review is dated as the menu now ranges from $14 - $27, with an average price being about $19.00.
