Appalachian Mountain Club

Educational Institutions, Beacon Hill and Boston Common

Fodor's Review:

The bowfront mansion that serves as the headquarters of one of New England's oldest environmental institutions draws nature lovers from all over the world. The club is a reliable source of useful information on outdoor recreation throughout the region, including cross-country skiing and hiking. (You don't have to be a member to use its resources.) Architecturally, the building is notable for its carved cornices and oriel window decorated with vines and gargoyles.
